Southport golfing legend Tommy Fleetwood has just taken centre stage on the very latest postbox topper by the Southport Hookers ahead of The 154th Open Golf Championship at Royal Birkdale Golf Club in Southport!
The Southport Hookers won the Sefton Arts Award sponsored by Fitton Estates at The Grand Pride Of Sefton Awards at The Grand in Southport in April.
This group of guerrilla street artists meet in a secret location to crochet items including postbox toppers throughout Southport – as well as the iconic life-size replica crochet Spitfire in the Town Hall Gardens last year.
They said: “Our latest postbox topper has taken pride of place on the postbox at Hillside Bridge, outside Hillside Station – the closest postbox to Royal Birkdale Golf Club!
“Featuring Southport’s own lining up a putt, our handcrafted topper celebrates the excitement as The Open comes to Royal Birkdale.
“If you’re heading to the golf or passing through, be sure to stop by, take a photo, and say hello to Tommy! We hope it brings a smile to visitors and locals alike.
“Wishing Tommy and all the players the very best for a fantastic championship week!”

The 154th Open Golf Championship is coming to Royal Birkdale Golf Club in Southport from Sunday 12th July to Sunday 19th July 2026.
The Southport links will stage The Open for the 11th time, with Championship play starting on Thursday 16th July and running across four days, concluding when the Champion Golfer of the Year is named on Sunday 19th July 2026.
From Sunday 12th July to Wednesday 15th July fans can attend new bespoke practice days, each with their own unique offering, from a Last-Chance Qualifier to Heroes Classic – a showcase event featuring Champion Golfers and an array of special guests.
