A stylish new cafe and bar has been welcomed with open arms by the local community since it opened at Kew in Southport.
Forty Seven, which is situated at 47 Ovington Drive, has been making a great impression with its craft ales and gins, delicious cakes, tasty breakfasts, famous platters and sharing boards, hand-picked tea and coffee, and its friendly, welcoming atmosphere.
Owner Nik Wetherby has spotted a gap in the market in an area which had lost The Pageant pub and has little else in the way of choice for somewhere relaxing to sit down and meet friends over a few drinks and something to eat.
Nik said: “Things have been going really well since we’ve opened!
“The community has been really good, they’ve got right behind what we are doing here.
“We are a new local business and we have been really busy. Our daytime trade has been really picking up.
“We are getting well known for our breakfasts, and for our amazing cakes – the Biscoff Cheesecake is really taking off!”
Kew is an area which Nik knows very well. He has grown up in the area, and went to school at Kew Woods Primary School, the same school his children also attended.
He owned a carpet shop on the parade before he decided to make a change and open Forty Seven – something he felt was very much needed in the area.
He said: “I think people locally have really wanted somewhere like this where they can meet for a drink, relax, and enjoy something great to eat. There is nothing like this in Kew.
“Since The Pageant closed, people have wanted to see something new.
“This has been the perfect time to open Forty Seven. Lots of people – friends and families – have wanted to reconnect after all the lockdowns during the Covid pandemic. People are enjoying getting together again.

“Kew is a growing area too. 800 new houses have recently gone up, and it is still growing.”
Forty Seven opened its doors on 4th September and has been impressing customers with its delicious food menu, which serves people throughout the day. It has been going down very well.
In the Reviews on the Forty Seven Facebook page, one reviewer wrote: “If you haven’t been yet, you are missing out! What a lovely, relaxed community atmosphere we have here in Kew! A great new bar with a lovely selection of beer, rum and gin, and a wonderful family bar team who will stop at nothing to provide the best service. Can’t wait to come back soon!”
For breakfast, visitors can sit back and enjoy a bacon butty or a sausage butty, or a warm chocolate croissant, alongside one of the venue’s amazing coffees or loose leaf Suki teas.
Nik said: “We have some amazing charcuterie and cheese boards on the menu and wine to compliment them. We will soon be introducing a special Christmas platter.
“We have completed our menu – customers can enjoy these platters with a nice bottle or two.
“We are also serving cakes and pastries which are fresh each day.”

Forty Seven is famous for its superb Charcuterie Board for sharing (£15), which is perfect enjoyed with a nice bottle of wine or two, and includes: Prosciutto, Mortadella, Bresaola, Salami Finochionna, Nduja, Olives, Toasted Italian Sourdough and Dips.
The Cheese Platter for Sharing (£14) includes local Churchtown Cheddar, White Stilton Mango and Ginger, Red Crunch, Smoked Cheddar and Nicky Nook, served with a selection of Biscuits and a choice of 12 Chutneys.
There is a wide selection of craft ales, wines, gins, whiskies and other drinks to try too, with new specials coming in all the time.

Try the Garden Party Gin with fresh strawberries, raspberries, mint and black pepper, or a refreshing Pink Gin, or Berkshire Botanicals Rhubarb and Raspberry Gin.
Look out for the popular events taking place at Forty Seven too.
Nik said: “We had a Cheese and Wine Night here recently, which was really popular – it was sold out within a week! We also had the whisky night, which was a huge success. We will be doing more of these in January.
“We are looking forward to holding a Gin Tasting Night in December.”
