One of Britain’s most enduring comedians will show just why he’s remained so popular throughout his 50 year career as he takes centre stage at the 2025 Southport Comedy Festival.

Mick Miller’s humour appeals to audiences of all ages from his early days on ITV talent show New Faces and The Comedians, to today where his gags have been seen by millions of followers on YouTube. One show, In The Club, has over 6.6 million views.

It’s no surprise that tickets are selling fast for An Evening with Mick Miller sponsored by SB Patel at Southport Comedy Festival at Victoria Park in Southport on Thursday 16th October 2025: What’s On – Southport Comedy Festival

Mick was born and grew up in Dingle in Liverpool before moving to Wavertree, going to school near Childwall. He is looking forward to playing in front of a local audience in Merseyside.

He said: “I’ve been gigging for the past 50 years! I started out working as a Bluecoat, working at Pontins holiday camps in places like Camber Sands and Weymouth.

“I used to do stand-up comedy gigs at working men’s clubs and nightclubs. It was a great place to learn.

“I enjoyed being a support act to some amazing people, such as Tommy Cooper, The Three Degrees, Chuck Berry and others.

“I could have been a footballer instead of a comedian! I signed for Port Vale when Stanley Matthews was the Manager, but it didn’t work out as a career.

“I’m glad I went into a comedy instead. In football you’re finished by 30, but there’s a much greater longevity in comedy.

“I had a real resurgence during lockdown. Lockdown saw lots of people going on YouTube, looking for comedians to make them laugh. Lots of my jokes and my routines were getting shared.

“Some people were finding me after 50 years!

“I’ve had some great audiences this year with lots of sell-out shows, and I’m really looking forward to seeing the audience at Southport.

“I’m planning to carry on performing until my phone stops ringing with people wanting to book me.

“So far I have gigs booked towards next June, they keep coming in.”

When Mick Miller left football, he began performing at Pontins, where he became interested in stand-up comedy.

After being chief comedian at various Pontins venues, he moved to the north of England and began a career in the clubs.

Having won his heat on the talent show New Faces, he was then signed to support Chuck Berry on tour and his career has been non-stop since.

He’s delighted to be back on stage performing in the Elite Marquees luxury marquee at Victoria Park this October.

He said: “I did Southport Comedy Festival last year and really enjoyed it! I was very impressed with the way it is run.

“Val and Bren, who run the festival, do a brilliant job, they look after everyone really well.

“They have some fantastic names appearing this year! I’m a big fan of Jimeoin, John Cooper Clarke, and Clinton Baptiste, who I’ve worked with, and others. It’s an excellent line-up.

“They’re not at the festival this year but I’m a big fan of Troy Hawke, Tom Stade is a great comic too.

“My act is all about one liners and looking at life in a funny way. I don’t do politics or anything like that.

“Just lots and lots of jokes that will make people laugh!

“Lots of people come back who have seen me before. I get lots of people asking me for requests these days! It’s like being a singer! They ask me if I can tell their favourite jokes they’ve heard me say in the past.

“The most popular one is my Noddy routine, which I did at the Royal Command Performance and in Las Vegas. I’m always getting asked for that one. That might be coming out at Southport!

“The best thing about doing lots of rapid fire one liners is that you don’t give enough time for people to heckle you!

“I love making people laugh. It’s a great job. I made the transition from working men’s clubs and nightclubs to comedy clubs around 20 years ago, and they have really accepted me. I tour lots of comedy clubs around the country and I love it.”

This will be a masterclass in stand-up comedy not to be missed.

Mick Miller has starred in many, many TV shows including Kings of Comedy (Ch4), They Think It’s All Over (BBC1), Comedy World Cup (Ch4), John Bishop’s Only Joking (Sky1), Comedy Rocks with Jason Manford (ITV), Last Laugh in Vegas (ITV), and The Royal Variety Performance (ITV).

Plus – you can also see support from Canadian comedian Allyson June Smith.

After her initial forays into standup garnered her some success, Allyson hit the comedy club circuit, which in turn propelled her to headlining gigs at festivals. She shone in multiple high-profile slots at the Winnipeg, Halifax and Montreal’s Just For Laughs festival.

In the years that followed she received multiple nominations for Best Female Stand-up at the Canadian Comedy Awards, taped her own Comedy Now special and did stints on MuchMusic’s Video on Trial and CBC’s The Debaters.

Now settled in the city of Manchester, UK, it’s time for Europe to reap the rewards of Allyson June Smith’s ever-inventive comedic ascent.
