Jack and Hannah Sampson

This weekend’s football game between Chorley FC and Southport FC will be dedicated to former Southport star Jack Sampson’s wife, as she battles cancer.

Hannah Sampson is facing the devastating news that she has been diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer at the age of just 30.

Supporters of both clubs and anyone else who would like to help are now being urged to support the #HelpingHannahAppeal to support the young couple as Hannah undergoes treatment.

This Saturday (17th February 2024) both Southport FC and Chorley FC players will be wearing a very special t-shirt during the warm-up for the game.

The 16 shirts worn by the Southport FC players will be individually signed and auctioned off with all the proceeds going to the couple.

Hannah Sampson’s diagnosis, which was made in December, has turned the family’s life “totally upside down”.

The Chorley striker says the financial strain has become an additional worry.

Chorley FC and Southport FC are doing all they can to support them as the local community comes together to help the goal-getter and his partner.

There’s an auction this weekend as well as a racing night, and donated items include a number of signed football shirts, including the likes of Nick Pope, James Tarkowski and Harry Maguire. There are also items such as a Tyson Fury signed boxing glove.

Jack said: “Unfortunately, December brought unexpected challenges into our life that we never anticipated.

“My wife, Hannah, was unfortunately diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer aged 30.

Triple negative breast cancer tends to be more aggressive and has a higher likelihood of recurrence compared to other types of breast cancer.

“As we prepare for the upcoming treatments and the inevitable time away from work, the financial strain has become an additional worry for us. Hannah also anticipates the emotional toll of losing her hair during chemotherapy, prompting the need for a wig to help her maintain a sense of normality.

“In light of these challenges, we are reaching out to you for support. We have started a fundraising campaign to help alleviate the financial burden that comes with battling cancer. Your generosity will go towards securing a wig, and ensuring that we can focus on Hannah’s recovery without the added stress of financial worry.

“By supporting this cause, not only are you helping me and Hannah navigate this difficult chapter, but you are also contributing to the broader fight against breast cancer.

“I understand that times are tough for everyone, and any amount you can contribute will make a meaningful impact.

“Your thoughts, prayers, and support are immensely appreciated during this challenging time.”
