Champion newspapers will stop delivering newspapers to people’s homes as a safety measure during the coronavirus outbreak.

The temporary measure will take place with immediate effect meaning no editions will be delivered in Southport, Sefton or West Lancashire this week.

In a statement, Champion Newspaper managing director Lyndsey Naylor said: “The government has issued strict new measures in trying to minimise the spread of Coronavirus in the community.

“The Champion, therefore, has no alternative but to responsibly follow those measures and so, with immediate effect, we are ceasing publication of Champion Newspaper titles for the time being.

“However, we intend to remain very much active in the communities of Sefton and West Lancashire and, with that in mind, we would like to inform all our readers and advertisers that we shall continue to have an important presence on social media platforms both on our website at champnews.com and on the Champion Newspapers Facebook page, where you can find all your local news and more.

“Thank you for your understanding of the situation with regards to the temporary non-publication of our Champion titles and although, regrettably, they won’t be dropping through your letterbox in the coming weeks, we are still very much around as we have been for the past 26 years.

“So, if you have anything you feel might be of interest to our news team, let us know at [email protected] or call us on 01704 392400.”
