Car parking fees and charges in Sefton are due to be increased this year.

The “inflationary increase” is felt to be justifiable by Sefton Council as charges have not been changed for the past few years.

They are likely to come into force from April.

The rises will net an additional £125,000 for the council in 2023/24.

They are among a series of savings being proposed at a Sefton Council meeting next Tuesday (7th February 2023) as the local authority looks to set its Budget for the coming financial year.

The exact details of the proposed rises have not yet been published.

A report by Sefton Council Executive Director of Corporate Resources and Customer Services Stephan Van Arendsen said: “This proposal is to increase car parking fees and charges to take into account current increases in inflation.

“Parking charges have not been increased for several years. Future demand levels have been factored into this net saving.”

Rising inflation, rocketing energy prices and increasing wages are having a multi-million pound impact on Sefton’s Budget this year.

Council officers estimate that Sefton is facing a funding shortfall of £33.996 million between 2023/24 and 2025/26.
