People are being urged to be on the lookout after damage was caused to bowling greens in Southport.
Police have been informed of the incident with witnesses being sought and local residents being asked to report any incidents they might see at Kings Gardens.
Kenny Baxter, who runs Bowls Membership Development at Southport Flat Green Bowls Club in the park, said: “Last Friday a number of adults decided to use the Southport Flat Green Bowls Club B Green as a football pitch. Our club is based at Kings Gardens.
“Goal posts were set up and football boots were used, resulting in damage from sliding tackles.
“Merseyside Police are treating the incident as vandalism and possible criminal damage and have recorded it on their system, the incident number is 0691 15/5/2020.”
People are now being asked to help protect the club against any further damage.
Kenny Baxter said: “Club members would ask that if you are out and about the Kings Gardens area and see anyone misusing the facilities to please contact the Merseyside Police and quote the incident number.
“Your support with this matter would be greatly appreciated.
“If the incident had occurred on the main green then it is likely our members would have been unable to play the game they love after the Covid-19 restrictions are lifted.”
