Blackhurst Butchers in Southport launches new App after surge in home deliveries

A family-run Southport butchers has launched a new App to help customers order food from the comfort of their own homes.

Blackhurst Butchers has been based at the heart of Southport Market on King Street in Southport town centre for the past 45 years.

Over the last five decades owner Tony Blackhurst and his family have enjoyed welcoming a regular stream of loyal customers calling in for their top quality local British produce, award winning sausages, legendary steaks and home prepared meals.

When the Coronavirus pandemic struck in March Blackhurst Butchers quickly launched a home delivery service, ensuring they delivered to customers within a six-mile radius including Southport, Banks, Formby, Scarisbrick and Halsall. The phones never stopped ringing.

Now they have launched their brand new App to make life even easier for shoppers.

With Covid-19 figures rising in Sefton, people can use their mobile phones to browse the latest products and place their orders before Blackhurst Butchers delivers whatever they want directly to their doorstep.

The business prides itself on sourcing the very best British produce, from Cumbrian beef, to Welsh lamb and English pork.

Feeling adventurous? You can also order items including: English Spatchcock Chickens (Greek Style or Piri Piri), Handmade Spring Lamb Koftas, Chinese Pork Steaks, Jamaican Jerk Chicken, Stuffed Chicken Breast with a French Sauce, Caribbean Chicken and Spring Welsh Mini Lamb Kleftico.

Tony Blackhurst said: “We have had a very busy few months!

“We are delighted to make a new Blackhurst Butchers App available for our customers. It will enable people to order deliveries through our App, or through our website. People can still call us and place their orders that way if they prefer.

“The new App gives a great sample of the many products which we provide.

“Customers can pick up their mobile phone, and have a browse through what we do from the comfort and safety of their own home.

“They can use the App to make sure that what they want is easy and ready for them to collect when they arrive at our shop, or they can ask us to deliver straight to their door for them.”

The creation of the App was very much a family affair.

Tony said: “We developed the new App with my son, Daniel, and my daughter, Jade, who have been working very hard on it over the last three months.

“I am sure our customers will enjoy it.

“Since the Coronavirus pandemic arrived in March we have seen a huge volume of people wanting deliveries.

“It was taking a long time over the phone, taking orders and then phoning back to arrange payment, so the new Blackhurst Butchers App will make life much easier both for us and for shoppers.

“People can now pay online through a very quick and easy process. Of course customers are still welcome to call in and see us or place their orders by phone if that is more convenient for them.”

Blackhurst Butchers was once one of six butchers to operate in Southport Market alone, and are now the standard bearers for the town centre.

They are now looking forward to becoming part of the planned redevelopment of Southport Market into a stylish food, drink and events hub similar to Altrincham Market.

Work is due to begin later this year, with Blackhurst Butchers remaining open throughout the redevelopment work.

Owner Tony Blackhurst has worked at the business for nearly 40 years. He started working there as a Saturday job when he was 12 years old, and followed in his father’s footsteps.
