A packed audience and electric atmosphere made Birkdale’s Got Talent a resounding success when it took place at Birkdale Conservative Club in Birkdale Village in Southport on Saturday 26th January 2026.

The event was organised by Claire Kelly, owner of Southport Piano Academy and founder of Southport Young Musicians.

After the success of her youth music competition, Claire recognised a need for a wider platform that would welcome performers of all ages and disciplines from across the local arts community.

Open to any age and any talent, the show featured a diverse line-up of 12 acts across two halves. The audience of around 100 enjoyed an entertaining mix of singing, musical theatre, comedy, dance, instrumental performances including piano and saxophone, and even a teenage girl band. The supportive crowd created a lively atmosphere throughout, with enthusiastic cheering and applause for every performer.

The winner of Birkdale’s Got Talent 2026 was 16-year-old Tresawna Gielty, who performed an original piano composition written as part of her GCSE coursework. The cinematic piece, inspired by Viking imagery and the drama of the sea, captivated both judges and audience. Judges praised the performance for its sense of storytelling, describing how the music evoked rolling waves, tension and powerful visual scenes, carrying listeners “into the heart of a film”.

Second place went to teenage girl band Crimson Hour, who have only been performing together for a few months, while third place was awarded to Bella Cumia for her powerful and confident rendition of Tomorrow from Annie, delivered with impressive stage presence.

The judging panel brought a wealth of professional experience. Karen Finch-Edge, choreographer, professional dancer and owner of Act Academy, was joined by Sue Dexter, Chair of Singers for Sefton and Southport Sefton Arts Secretary, and John Taylor, resident pianist at The Grand in Southport as well as a singer and local DJ.

The winner received a £100 cash prize, a trophy and an invitation to perform at the Mayor’s Music Gala in October — a charity showcase event also created and run by Claire.

The evening also helped raise funds for Home-Start Southport & Formby, the Mayor’s chosen charity. With raffles, games and ticket sales combined, the event has brought Claire’s personal fundraising total to £800 so far towards her £1,000 target.

In addition to the performances, guests enjoyed a raffle featuring generous prizes, a Britain’s Got Talent–themed celebrity quiz and table treats included in the ticket price. The night concluded with an 80s disco, which saw many attendees take to the dance floor and round off the evening in style.

With glowing feedback already appearing on social media, organisers are hopeful that Birkdale’s Got Talent will become a much-loved annual event celebrating the depth and variety of talent in the Southport area.
