Southport’s very own independent cinema has unveiled this year’s Christmas line-up.

Bijou Cinema, on Post Office Avenue in Southport, is run by a group of friends who love films.

As they are independent, they have free reign over what films they show. They can screen anything from old classics to new films.

The cinema also has a blackboard for film fanatics to write suggestions for showings.

Kicking off the Christmas cinema experience on Sunday 1st December 2024, Bijou has a whole host of festive films lined up.

They said: “From The Holiday to The Muppets… The Shop Around the Corner to the Bishop’s Wife… there is something for everybody coming up in December (even a screening of OASIS: SUPERSONIC for those already sick of hearing about Christmas this early…)

“The Bijou Christmas Schedule 2024 is full of movies for the young and old and everyone in between… a range of movies you will have seen, may have always wanted to see… and hopefully some surprises too!

“Please note… any Sold Out screenings will lead to more showings being added, so don’t hesitate to book!

“Thank you as always and we can’t wait to see you all for another fantastic festive season.”

They start with ‘The Bishop’s Wife’ at 2:30pm which is followed by ‘Trading Places’ on 2nd December and the family-fun classic, ‘Elf’ on 7th December.

The team have hand-picked Christmas favourites, old and new, to run all the way up until the very big day itself.

Each film begins at either 12pm, 2:30pm or 7:30pm, with no trailers. The bar sells drinks and snacks one hour before a screening.

Southport Bijou Cinema won Liverpool City Region’s “Best Hidden Gem” category in The Guide Liverpool’s 2022 Tourism Awards and is committed to entertaining the community.

Their auditorium has 75 seats, accessible to all.

They also have a bar and box office that sells a range of lagers, ales, wines, and soft drinks.

Upstairs is host to The Bijou Lounge, a room with seating available for events and parties.
