People are invited to enjoy a special Author Event in Southport this October, with ‘An Evening With Benjamin Wood’.
It takes place at Southport & Birkdale Sports Club (S&B) on Trafalgar Road, Birkdale, between 7pm and 9pm on Monday 19th October 2026.
Enjoy an evening of books, conversation and audience questions.
Benjamin Wood grew up in Southport and is the award-winning author of ‘Seascraper’, a novel set in a lightly fictionalised Southport.
This will be a conversation and will include an audience Q&A and a book signing, with books on sale via the Waterstones bookshop in Southport.
Tickets are £5 each and are available from Birkdale Community Hub & Library at The Station Master’s House, 2 Liverpool Road, next to Birkdale Train Station in Birkdale Village.
All proceeds go to BCL, your local charity.
An event spokesperson said: “We are delighted to confirm our headline event with Benjamin Wood who grew up in Southport and is the award-winning author of Seascraper.
“The novel was longlisted for the Booker Prize and won the fiction category of the 2025 Nero Book Award.
“It tells the story of Thomas, a shrimper with dreams of becoming a musician but is trapped by class and the ghosts of his family’s past.
“The work has been described as lyrical, poetic and haunting.
“Seascaper, and Benjamin’s previous novels, will be available to buy on the night.
“This promises to be an event not to be missed.”
