A local author is running a kickstarter campaign to get free copies of her new children’s book into every primary school in Liverpool and Knowsley.

Jude Lennon has set up the appeal for her book ‘Lamby and the Liver Bird’ to increase reading for pleasure.

While the campaign has reached its initial £500 target, every penny donated will help to cover all the costs of getting these books into the schools.

Jude Lennon said: “Huge thanks to everyone who has supported my Kickstarter so far with either pledges or by sharing the project information.

“Some people have asked why I’ve set the target so low when it will cost far more than £500 to donate a free book to every primary school in Liverpool and Knowsley.

“The reason is this. Kickstarters are all or nothing campaigns so if the total isn’t reached none of the money can be used. Therefore I set the target to one I hoped would be achievable so it could go someway to covering the costs.

“Why am I doing it? Because reading for pleasure is at an all time low. Literacy levels in Knowsley are some of the lowest in the country. Reading is something that can really offer new opportunities for children.

“If you’d like to help me on my quest to encourage children to lose themselves in a book, become more confident, improve learning and increase reading for pleasure, I’d be over the moon if you could help with the following.

1. Pledge any amount of your choosing.

2. Pledge a set amount which comes with a reward.

3. Share the campaign far and wide.

“Thanks so much.”
