A local artist has been busy creating artwork that showcases the very best of Southport.

Jane Lambert is an amateur artist based in the town.

Over 150 cards, various framed prints and originals are available for sale at venues including Cambridge Walks Art Gallery; on the first floor of the Royal Arcade on Lord Streetand also on her JL Artwork website

Art lovers can buy a selection of original prints and cards, with a focus on subjects such as fitness, dance and movement, landscapes, still life, nature and animals.

Jane said: “A love of nature, colour and dance has inspired me to paint each of the images where I hope to have captured a particular movement or complete stillness. Watercolour, acrylics and inks have been used to allow a more fluid, less precise image.”

It’s been quite a journey. Jane was born and grew up in Chorley. She qualified and worked in Birmingham, followed by a move to Hereford where she established a retail shop.

From there Jane and her husband Bill moved to Andalucia in Spain and set up a successful business where they lived and worked for 15 years.

They spent a few years back in the UK working around the Lancaster area before deciding to retire and move to Southport.

It was a place that held fond memories of Jane;s childhood. The couple both love living in the town.

Jane enrolled on anm art course led by Roy Munday at The Atkinson in Southport and her love in art was rekindled.

She says that painting scenes of Southport was almost her way of showing her gratitude.

All the images started life based on one of a series of photographs.

Once the right perspective is captured this is painted by hand as a watercolour Or mixed media in A3 size.

To date there are 12 images. Each image is available as an A5 or A6 card As well as framed pictures in a range of sizes. Five of the original paintings have already been sold: three at The Atkinson in 2024, one at Lydiate Art Fair and one at Cambridge Walks Gallery.

Two of Jane’s original paintings are exhibited at The Atkinson with Sefton Art Group in April and May.

There are over 270 cards from 40 designs for sale at the Royal Arcade, each one created from a painting.

Whether it be a wedding card, a birthday card, a Southport scene or one of the popular football teams there should be something which may appeal to all.

Smaller cards A6 size cost £2 each or three cards for £5. Larger A5 cards cost £3 each and there is also a selection of cards for £1.

Jane is currently working on a special commission for Serena Silcock-Prince depicting Southport Pier.

The Royal Arcade on Lord Street is quite an experience and well worth a visit with an eclectic mix of over 60 stalls.
