A Royal Navy veteran is taking on the 41st Malta Marathon to raise funds for the Armed Forces Community Hub in Southport.
Alison Moore will take on the 26.2 mile challenge this Sunday (22nd February 2026) to support the Hub, on Wesley Street in Southport town centre, which provides vital services for veterans, armed forces personnel and families.
She has already raised over £1,600 from generous supporters, with people able to support her appeal here: Fundraiser by Alison Moore : Raising funds to keep Southport Royal British Legion running
Alison Moore said: “I’m one of the volunteers with the Royal British Legion Armed Forces Community Hub Southport.
“Did you know that we do not receive any funds from Head Office to help with the day-to-day costs of running our fantastic Hub? So that’s all the not-very-sexy stuff such as electricity, water, rent, insurance that has to be found from fundraising.
“So, in February 2026, I’m taking on the Malta Marathon to raise money towards our routine costs.
“This will be a 26.2 mile run from Mdina in the centre of the island, wending our way north via Valletta to finish in Sliema and all to be done within a 5 hour timeframe!
“We need about £600 per month to pay for the dull stuff so the more I raise, the more money that can then go towards helping the veterans and their families that need our help.

“Within our Community Hub, our volunteers offer front line support to the Armed Forces Community which range from a simple cuppa to more in-depth support such as mental health, financial support and through illness and / or injury.
“We are entirely reliant on volunteers who give their time, energy and patience to help those who need us. This is my way of easing the burden of the admin and allowing more focus on the important stuff within our Community.”
A Southport Armed Forces Community Hub spokesperson said: “Our very own Alison Moore, Royal Navy Veteran, absolute powerhouse, and the woman behind Southport’s brilliant fitness community for over‑55s Fiftyfivefit, is about to take on the Malta Marathon to raise vital funds for the Royal British Legion Southport Armed Forces Community Hub.
“If you can give even a couple of pounds, it genuinely makes a huge difference.
“Let’s get Alison over the finish line and help keep our Hub going for the people who need it most.
“Thank you for backing Alison. Thank you for backing our Hub.
“Let’s do this.”
Alison was among guests in attendance as the Armed Forces Community Hub celebrated its fourth anniversary on Saturday (14th February 2026) as Lord Lieutenant of Merseyside Peter Oliver OBE and High Sheriff of Merseyside Billy Hui BEM called in to lead the celebrations.
The Hub, on Wesley Street in Southport town centre, was packed with veterans, families and supporters sharing birthday cake and cups of tea as it hosted its fourth anniversary party.
Since 2022, the Armed Forces Community Hub has been proud to serve the Armed Forces community in Southport, offering frontline support, friendship, practical help and a welcoming space.
Alongside this, the facility has laid on skills, manpower and support for some of Southport’s biggest community events, including the annual Armed Forces Day on the last weekend in June.
It is one of the only Royal British Legion branches in the country open five days a week, run by dedicated volunteers
