Six historic lodges in Southport are due to be sold.
They include vacant properties at Botanic Gardens in Churchtown and Victoria Park in Southport, as well as lodges at Southport Crematorium, Liverpool road Cemetery in Ainsdale and Duke Street Cemetery in Birkdale.
They will be sold at auction with proceeds going to Sefton Council.
A recommendation to sell the lodges has been made by council officers, with a decision due on 11th December 2025.
Councillors will be asked to declare all six vacant residential properties as ‘surplus to operational requirements’.
They can then transfer responsibility for them to the Cabinet Member for Regeneration Economy and Skills to be managed under the Council’s Asset Management Strategy and disposed of within the Asset Disposal programme for 2025/26.
The six properties are:
Asset 905 – The Lodge, Liverpool Road Cemetery, 488 Liverpool Road, Ainsdale PR8 3BD (Ainsdale Ward)
Asset 906 – No 2 Lodge, Botanic Gardens, Botanic Road, Southport, PR9 7NB (Meols Ward)
Asset 909 – Southport Crematorium Lodge, Southport PR8 5JQ (Outside Borough)
Asset 1057 – Victoria Park Lodge, Rotten Row, Southport, PR8 2BZ (Dukes Ward)
Asset 2125 – Duke Street Cemetery Lodge 1, Southport PR8 5EL (Kew Ward)
Asset 2131 – Duke Street Cemetery Lodge 2, Southport PR8 5EL (Kew Ward)
A Sefton Council report said: “It is intended to sell the properties by auction, to achieve certainty of completion and the capital receipt in 2025/26.
“The properties have been vacant for many years and are in a poor state of repair.
“The Council will receive a capital receipt from the disposals.
“Disposal of the properties will lead to the refurbishment of the properties by new owners, therefore bringing vacant residential properties back into use.
“There will also be revenue savings due to the cessation of statutory maintenance checks once properties are disposed of in addition to no longer meeting Council Tax requirements.”
