An impressive new Christmas tree has been installed in Churchtown Village in Southport.

It’s been placed outside the Hesketh Arms pub, with families invited to enjoy a lights switch on this Friday (28th November 2025).

Marshside Brass Band will be playing festive music next to the tree from 6.30pm, with the lights being switched on from 7pm.

People can then enjoy live entertainment inside the pub after the switch on.

The team at the Hesketh Arms are also looking to the much-anticipated Festival of Churchtown Christmas this Sunday (30th November 2025), which is always a busy day in the Village.

Hesketh Arms landlord Dave Langshaw said:

“We have organised a tree for Churchtown Village this year and put it up outside the Hesketh Arms. We hope families enjoy it!

“We’ve got a little switch on for the tree booked in for this Friday 28th November, Marshside Brass band are coming down to do a performance.

“We’d love people to come down, enjoy the atmosphere and make it a special occasion.

“We tested everything this evening whilst it was quiet, and it’s definitely something special for the village! It looks really good.

“It all started from a discussion last year that we should get Churchtown a tree that they deserve this year, as other villages seemed to have a big tree, but Churchtown didn’t.

“The tree was kindly sourced and supplied by Green Care in Burscough and Burscough Christmas Trees.

“They say that they are really proud that it’s one of their trees that will be the focal point of Churchtown over Christmas.

“We were helped massively by Ian Rylands of Groundwork Ltd, who brought the machinery to aid us get the tree in place and get it lit and decorated.

“This Friday at 6.30pm Marshside Brass Band are playing and we will switch the tree on at 7pm.

“We’ll have some live entertainment in the pub afterwards.

“Green Care and Burscough Christmas Trees gifted the tree to me for the village after I mentioned to them that I was going to raise funds to get the village a tree. They’re regular customers at The Hesketh.

“We’re all really grateful for their support, as it’s something that’s really going to put smiles on people’s faces this Christmas.”

Families are also getting ready to enjoy The Festival of Churchtown Christmas which will take place between midday and 6pm this Sunday (30th November 2025). All are welcome!

Families can look forward to a day packed with festive entertainment, compered by Hayley Murray.

Acts include the Churchtown School Choir, The Trine Band, Wright’s Performing Arts, Babyballet, Yooks, DBA School of Dance, Southport Salvation Army, Marshside Brass Band, and Sea Cadets.

Dave Langshaw said:

“This Sunday should be a fantastic day as usual!

“Hopefully the weather holds up. I’m having the marquee installed again this year, the same as last year, we’re looking forward to welcoming everyone for a fantastic weekend in Churchtown.”
