Southport is set to enjoy the last day of the August Bank Holiday in style with temperatures forecast to reach as high as 29C.

The scorching temperatures are among many great reasons for people to visit the town, with local attractions open and some great events happening.

At Southport & Birkdale Sports Club on Trafalgar Road in Birkdale, the S&Beer Festival continues with a Family Day with live music, over 20 beers and – with free entry.

Gates open at midday, with live music from Bradley Palin from 2.30pm; Callum McMorran from 2.30pm; and the Amazing Kappa Band from 6,15pm.

Football fans can then enjoy the N newcastle v Liverpool match from 8pm.

There is a Kids Zone and fabulous food vendors.

Also on Bank Holiday Monday, Southport Model Engineering Club will be running trains from 11am onwards, until roughly 3pm.

Rides are a suggested donation of £2 per passenger.

You can find them adjacent to the children’s play area at Victoria Park in Southport.

At The Grand on Lord Street in Southport, from 12pm, you can enjoy An Enchanted Afternoon with Belle & Friends for £10pp.

Join Belle, Beast, and the ever-charming Lumière for a magical afternoon full of sparkle, singing, and royal fun with live performances from your favourite enchanted characters and fun and games for all ages.

This Bank Holiday Monday, the North West and Midlands are set to see the highest temperatures, while Wales may be in store for its hottest late August bank holiday on record.

It comes after the Met Office said last week that the summer was already on track to be among the UK’s hottest on record, with four heatwaves declared.
