The Windmill pub on Seabank Road in Southport

From the power of our very own Stand up for Southport page, The Windmill pub on Seabank Road in Southport town centre is hosting its first poetry and spoken word open night on Sunday, 8th August at 8pm.

The free to enter event will be held on the second Sunday of every month and is the brainchild of local wordsmith Rebecca Kenny.

Having posted a question on our Stand up for Southport Facebook page asking if there was a poetry and spoken word event locally, comments from like minded locals soon flooded the page.

The Windmill quickly saw this exciting and different night and helped Rebecca lay the groundwork to bring the event to life!

Landlord Neil Walsh said: “I saw Rebecca’s post and quickly knew it would be something great to have at our venue and something different for the area, we can’t wait to start!

“Speak Up! Is open to all who enjoy spoken word, poetry and short stories etc, it’s free to get up and have a go!”

Speak Up! Is every second Sunday of the month from 8pm at The Windmill Pub, Seabank Road, Southport PR9 0EL.
