Southport College is thrilled to have secured a £5,000 grant from Open Awards to improve its science facilities.

This funding will directly benefit students on the Access to Nursing and Midwifery and Access to Health and Medical Science courses by providing them with more interactive lab equipment in the newly established Bio-Med Laboratory.

The grant will be used to acquire industry-standard equipment for microbiological investigations, biochemical analysis, and pathology diagnosis.

These additions will create an even more engaging, hands-on learning environment, ensuring students are well-prepared for university-level study and future careers in healthcare.

Southport College Curriculum Leader for Health and Social Care, Wesley Magee, said:

“I’m delighted that Open Awards have selected us to receive this grant.

“The funding will allow us to enhance our resources with industry-standard equipment, further enriching our students’ learning experience and preparing them for higher education and beyond.”

The Southport College Health and Social Access to Higher Education courses are a year long qualification which give participants the entry requirements to pursue a university degree in their chosen healthcare field.

This ensures a future for our NHS as the college actively builds the next generation of healthcare workers.
