This Friday (14th March 2025) Southport Rugby Club Vets take on Wooden Spoon North West Vets at Waterloo Road in a charity fundraising game.
The game, which kicks off at 7.30pm, is to raise funds and awareness for both the Wooden Spoon and Elsie’s Story.
The Wooden Spoon is the children’s charity of rugby supporting children with disabilities, or facing disadvantaged.
Elsie’s Story was set up in the name of Elsie Dot Stancombe who tragically was among three young girls killed on 29th July last year at The Hart Space in Southport.
The charity aims to provide grants for essential resources and special experiences that bring happiness and hope.
Elsie’s Story says: “Every grant we give, every smile we create and every life we touch is a reflection of Elsie’s legacy.”
All funds raised on the night will go directly to both charities supporting children in Merseyside.
Southport Rugby CLub Chair Enda Rylands said: “Entry on the night is FREE. There will be donation collection points and a large raffle for sporting memorabilia and other prizes so please support the event by contributing on the evening.
“This is an evening where the rugby community shows support for the young people of Southport.
“We are incredibly happy that the Wooden Spoon Vets have agreed to support the community by giving up their time to travel to Southport.
“Vets rugby is for over 35’s and both teams will be looking to provide an entertaining game of rugby played in the true spirit of the game.
“This is not just an evening for rugby enthusiasts, this is for the entire community to come down to Waterloo Road and show support for the young people of Southport.”
