A group of running enthusiasts are inviting people to join them in a fun virtual relay running event which raises money for different charities every week.
The FUNdRun takes place every Sunday, with each participant either running or walking for 30 minutes. The team of Captains decide on the charity to support and the theme of the run each week.
Team Captain Nicky Cooper, from Southport, said: “This is a great event for anyone wanting to get out active. It is a virtual relay event which can be run or walked in 30 minutes.
“We do it each week with people from all over the globe.
“The brainchild of David Steel, FUNdRun came about after an idea that during lockdown, friends who normally ran together, could still do it, but on a ‘virtual’ basis.
“Friends, colleagues and contacts were invited to join our first event where we raised money to support and thank the NHS charity. This was initially a one off event, with more than 100 participants raising well over £1,000.
“So many of the participants asked if we could do it again, and FUNdRun was born!

“Now at event 14, we have supported a different charity each week, such as Women’s Aid,
Prostate Cancer UK, Derian House Children’s Hospice, Epilepsy Research, and MacMillan Cancer Care.”
The team of Captains decide on which charity to support and the theme of the run each week.
Participants then register to take part through the FUNdRun Facebook group page and make a minimum £5 donation.
Participants are then allocated into teams, with a Captain from the organising group looking after the team or teams.
Each person then runs or walks wherever they like for 30 minutes at their allotted time in a team relay. When they have completed their run or walk, they post photos and hand over to the next person in the team.
When complete, captains submit the results for their team/s and all money raised from the event is paid to the chosen charity.
Nicky Cooper said: “A simple idea that has grown and supported many charities, FUNdRun has become something more than a group of people running together.
“It has become a community of people networking, and supporting each other in our goal, as well giving everyone involved a feeling of being able to help some great charities, do something proactive, make friends, and enjoy getting out and about during these troubled and stressful times.
