People are invited to support the Remembrance Sunday commemorations in Southport this weekend.
The event this Sunday (10th November 2024) always draws huge support for an event organised by Southport Royal British Legion.
Volunteers have been working hard this year selling poppies and tidying the area around Southport War Memorial.
The Southport Hookers community group meanwhile has created an incredible Poppy Drape, made from 10,000 knitted crochet poppies, which has been installed in the Remembrance Gardens.
Southport Royal British Legion Chair Major Nick mcEntee said: “Anyone wishing to march in this year’s parade is requested to meet at the Armed Forces Community Hub on Wesley Street, which will be open from 9.30am.
“The Parade will march off from Wesley Street at 10.25am.
“Any less able participants who wish to take part in the parade, can meet at the junction of Chapel Street and London Street at 10.45am to join with the last part of the march.
“All Cadets will also march with their contingents from Wesley Street. This is a change from previous years, in line with guidance from Merseyside Police.
“If you are joining us for Remembrance but not taking part in the parade. You are warmly welcomed to gather around the memorial in time for the service to start shortly after 1045.
“Lest we forget.”
