Southport College Professional Cookery student Jamie Lee has been honoured as a national Hospitality Apprentice of the Year Finalist

A Southport College Professional Cookery student and Windmill pub chef has been honoured as a national Hospitality Apprentice of the Year Finalist.  

Jamie Lee’s talents are being celebrated in the British Institute of Innkeeping’s National Innovation in Training Awards. 

The 18-year-old has also been praised by bosses at The Windmill pub in Southport, where he works as an apprentice chef. 

A Southport College spokesperson said: “We want to say a massive congratulations to our Professional Cookery student Jamie Lee who has been shortlisted as a finalist for the British Institute of Innkeeping’s National Innovation in Training Awards in the category of Hospitality Apprentice of the Year. 

“Jamie has worked as a cookery apprentice at Southport’s The Windmill for the past 18 months where he has gone from strength to strength building his skillset and confidence in the kitchen.

“He will attend the awards ceremony in November, which will be held at the prestigious Porchester Hall in London.

“We’d like to thank his tutor Gavin and the team at The Windmill for supporting Jamie as his early career. Good luck Jamie!”

The Windmill landlords Neil Walsh and Tom Hodgin said: “We are beyond delighted after having nominated our apprentice Jamie for the British Institute of Innkeeping National Innovation in Training Awards in the Category of Hospitality Apprentice of the Year.

“At only 18 years old and having only been in our kitchen for just over 18 months Jamie is an integral part of our kitchen team.

“We now look forward to taking him to the glitzy awards ceremony in November

“Well done Jamie and also to Gavin from Southport College.”
