A Southport bar beer and beer shop is celebrating 10 years in business.
Tap & Bottles, based in Cambridge Arcade, reached the impressive milestone today (August 6). As well as operating the micropub and takeaway bottle shop, the venue is also responsible for the annual Beer Street festival and regularly has stalls at events such as Southport Food & Drink Festival.
It has twice been named as Merseyside CAMRA pub of the year and in 2016 expanded the bar area into the neighbouring unit to meet growing demand.
Owner Julian Burgess announced a typically low key anniversary celebration on the bar’s Facebook page. He wrote: “A lot happens in a decade. It certainly has this last decade!
“We are still here though! The craft beer scene has like all markets has changed and matured. We’ve all changed (but not necessarily matured!)
“Like lots of small business owners will tell you what you planned and what happened are two very different things! There have been highlights along the way doing the Beer Street festivals was always an ambition and they just got better and better. Like most people the low-point was the lockdown but even that wasn’t so bad when we got out on the deliveries!
“Am I where I was hoping to be probably not am I happy where I am. You can’t probably tell from looking but yes!
“Is this the beginning of the end or the end of the beginning! There’s a lot I wanted to do that we haven’t.
“So I’ll be making amends for that starting with skittles…tonight from 8ish if you fancy coming down to celebrate!
“There’ll also be at least one pint at 2014 prices. Southport Brewery pale at £2.90 a pint!”
