A chocolate themed cafe in Southport is getting rave reviews for its latest creation – Yorkshire pudding desserts!
Chocolate Whirled, a chocolate cafe and shop on Manchester Road, serves the iconic puddings filled with Wallings ice cream and smothered in chocolate sauce and other toppings.
Owners Laura and Simon Stevens have them on their menu this week as part of their Valentine’s / Pancake Day / half term offering, which also include pancake stacks.
They said they “wanted to try something a bit different” and have enjoyed a positive response from customers.
They said: “Our Yorkshire puddings are all ready and made for any of our lovely customers fancying trying one of our Yorkshire Pud Specials!
“All of our Pancake Day Specials are available for the next week too.
“We’re doing a range of different things for Pancake Day which we started last Friday until this Friday coming.
“Our chocolate and our strawberry Pancake Stacks are popular all year around. I’d planned a couple of additions to that side of it as well as traditional pancakes, but also wanted something a bit different too.
“At home I use exactly the same recipe for pancakes for my homemade Yorkshire’s and Si had been telling me about when he used to go to friends for Sunday dinner and they would use any leftovers Yorkshires for pudding with cream and jam.
“So I thought I’d try it as something totally different for our pancake week specials!

“Members of our weekend team weren’t sure about the idea of cold Yorkshires, but enjoyed the tester ones we tried! It’s a hard job – but someone’s got to do it!
“They taste just like a giant profiterole. which was how I described it, but also how the first customer to try it on Saturday described it too.
“They are even nicer as they’re covered with loads of our lovely chocolate, the Wallings farm ice cream that we use for all our desserts and then whatever toppings the customer chooses.
“It just works, though we still needed to see what the customers thought!

“We did a number of the Yorkshire pud desserts on Saturday and they all went down really well!
“There’s an extra pot of chocolate with it which can be milk, white or dark Belgian chocolate and all of the puds are home-made by me.”
