One of the UK’s top chefs has revealed Bistro Verité in Birkdale in Southport as his favourite local restaurant!

Marc Birchall is the chef patron at Moor Hall and The Barn at Moor Hall in Aughton in Lancashire, and knows all about great food.

His multi award-winning restaurant holds two Michelin Stars, a Michelin Green Star, and five AA Rosettes. It was voted ‘Best Restaurant in England’ at the Estrella Damm National Restaurant Awards 2022.

When he goes out to eat he loves calling into Bistro Verité, on Liverpool Road in Birkdale Village.

Speaking to The Good Food Guide, Mark Birchall said: “My favourite local restaurant is Bistro Verité in Birkdale.

“It’s a small, family-run place serving good quality food.

“Everyone’s really friendly in there and the atmosphere is always perfect.

“As well as great front of house service, it’s reasonably priced and has a good range of dishes to choose from as well as a children’s menu, so perfect for a family night out.”

Earlier this year, Bistrot Vérité was honoured as one of just 14 Merseyside eateries named in the 2023 AA Restaurant Guide.

The stylish venue in Birkdale Village is the only venue in Southport to feature in the latest prestigious publication, with Liverpool and Wirral featuring heavily.

The AA Restaurant Guide is an esteemed guide to the best quality restaurants up and down the UK, granting establishments ‘rosettes’ as awards.

Only 10% of restaurants nationwide are of a standard that is worthy of one Rosette and above.

Bistrot Vérité is a family-run restaurant in the truest sense of the word.

It was founded by chef Marc Vérité, who realised a lifelong ambition and opened his eponymous venue after working in France and in Belgium.

Today his son Jacques is head chef at the restaurant while son Charlie is front of house manager. Marc’s wife Michaela is also at the restaurant each day while Marc’s dad, the famous baker Claude Vérité – the former owner of Claude’s in Churchtown – used to help out with patisserie before he sadly passed away.

The business, which employs 10-12 members of staff, grew recently with the opening of Le Petite Vérité, in the unit next door to the bistrot.
