One of Southport’s oldest family businesses has announced it is closing, due to retirement.

Oldfields Automobiles, which is based on Queens Road near Southport town centre, will close its doors for the last time at the end of October.

The firm has been serving people in Southport and beyond for over a century.

The business is now selling off its last cars, with lots of bargains to be had.

In a statement, David, Peter, Steven and Stephanie of Oldfields Automobiles Ltd. said: “After over 100 years of trading and many years of service to the people of Southport and surrounding areas, we, as a family have finally decided to retire and as such from 31st October 2022 Oldfields Automobiles will no longer be trading.

“With this in mind, all our cars in our final retirement sale are now attractively priced and will be provided with a 12 month warranty with the sale and supported by The Warranty Group Ltd.

“Although we will no longer be in business, should your car require any servicing or MOT, we ourselves use and highly recommend either Jones & Kearns, 77 Portland Street, Southport (tel. 01704 537213) or Virginia Street Garage, 30 Virginia Street, Southport (tel 01704 543808).

“May we thank you for all your custom and the support of our business over the years.”

The news has led to huge support from customers – over many years – on social media.

Speaking on the Oldfields Facebook page, Will Clift said: “What a very sad loss to the town not many old established businesses left but perhaps this is just a sign of the times and things to come good luck to all of you and enjoy your retirements take care everyone.”
