Hundreds of runners will race through town this Sunday (26th June) as the 2022 Southport 10K and Half Marathon take place.
The popular annual event returns for its 8th and best edition to date, on the traffic free route which includes the entire length of Lord Street in Southport town centre.
A number of road closures will be in place on Sunday both for this race, and also for the Southport Armed Forces Day.
The Southport 10K and Half Marathon start at 9am near West Lancashire Yacht Club on Marine Drive in Southport.
Participants will spring past Southport Pier and along the coastal road, past Southport Pleasureland, past Victoria Park, and then onto Lord Street.
There are some great spots for spectators along the course.
The route is the only running event in the history of Southport to be permitted to close Lord Street to traffic and allow participants to run through the heart of this famous seaside resort with blingtastic medals and tech T-Shirts for all finishers. Fully UKA Licensed with HM & 10k courses accurately measured and officially certified distances.
Fylde Coast Runners have taken over the reins of this event which was formerly organised by Epic Events.
The Southport Half Marathon is the first leg of the BTR Tour of Merseyside.
Several roads in Southport will be temporarily closed on Sunday 26th June 2022 due to two large events taking place.
Diversions will be in place, with motorists asked to avoid the affected areas while the road closures are in place.
The closures are due to Southport Armed Forces Day and the Southport Half Marathon.
Sefton Council has granted the road closures under the Road Traffic Regulation (Special Events) Act.
