Southport Athletic Junior Football Club is holding a special tournament this weekend to raise funds and awareness of the Sefton Afghan Appeal.
The Biograd Cup 2021 will take place at Ferryside Lane in Crossens in Southport between 10am and 1pm this Saturday, 25th September, with spectators welcome!
Southport Athletic Junior Football Club is a newly formed club, founded in March last year to help develop young footballers aged 6 to 16. It was founded from the previous Phoenix FC under a completely new management.
The club has an inclusive culture and wants the young players to enjoy their footballing experience, putting enjoyment of the game first, above the pursuit of trophies.
Paul Mullan runs Southport Athletic Junior Football Club along with friends Alan McCoombe and Ben Minto.
In July, players at Southport Athletic Junior Football Club enjoyed their first ever awards ceremony at Southport Rugby Football Club, where they were overjoyed to be joined by former title winning Celtic player and manager Neil Lennon.
A club spokesperson said: “Southport Athletic JFC is a great club with a strong community ethos, wholly run by volunteers, with focus on participation, inclusion and enjoyment for players of all abilities. Our website is: southportathletic.co.uk
“The tournament, hosted by Southport Athletic, aims to raise awareness and funds for Sefton’s Afghan Appeal.
“We are very grateful to all our sponsors, who include:
“Biograd, the main sponsor for the Biograd Cup 2021; Edgar’s Famly Fuits; Churchtown Chimney Sweep; and all of the club’s sponsors who help make this great club what it is.
“Formby Juniors couldn’t make the tournament, but they have made a generous donation to this important cause.
“We are grateful to Stand Up for Southport’s Andrew Brown for joining us to present the trophy and medals to the winners.
“The winning team has been generously invited by the Mayor of Sefton to a presentation at Southport Town Hall in the Mayor’s Parlour.”
The Biograd Cup 2021 tournament takes place between 10am and 1pm this Saturday, 25th September, at Ferryside Lane, Crossens, Southport, all welcome.
