Diplomats from around the world have offered their congratulations and well wishes ahead of the opening of the world’s first children’s charity embassy in Southport.
Alongside acceptances from senior diplomats and politicians for Alder Hey Children’s Charity Embassy’s inauguration on Tuesday, 1st June at family attraction Southport Pleasureland, the ‘world first’ initiative has seen a swell of support from foreign Honorary Consuls.
The Embassy was built by Southport Pleasureland to underpin its partnership with the charity and put the work it does at the heart of a place where so many happy family memories are made.
Merseyside-based consuls for Tunisia, Germany, Italy, Romania, Iceland, Denmark, San Marino and Finland have all formally recognised the new Embassy.
Honorary Consul of Tunisia, Robert Burnett-Hughes wrote:
I know that the improvements at Pleasureland have been a real boost to the resort’s attractiveness and wish that your event and the association with Alder Hey will be very successful
Thank you and good wishes.

Honorary Danish Consul to Liverpool, Colin Turner, wrote:

The Alder Hey Children’s Charity Embassy at Southport Pleasureland will play an important role in making sure park visitors will consider supporting a charity that is so important to us all and has proven to do such incredible work to improve healthcare.’
Pleasureland CEO, Norman Wallis will share a platform with Alder Hey Children’s Charity CEO Fiona Ashcroft as the child-scale Embassy is declared open and the Embassy’s new flag, bearing the new crest, is raised by one of the charity’s child ambassadors.
Fiona Ashcroft, CEO Alder Hey Children’s Charity said:
“We are delighted that Southport Pleasureland has chosen to raise funds and awareness to support Alder Hey.
“After a difficult year for everyone, the launch event is a truly fun way to mark the beginning of the partnership and our child ambassadors are very excited to come along and share in the excitement.
“At Alder Hey Children’s Charity it’s all about making the experience for our patients the best it can be, and sprinkling a little bit of magic, so we know that our families will enjoy the rides and attractions at Southport Pleasureland.
“It will certainly be a unique event and we really appreciate the messages of support that the park has received from Consuls across the city.”
Pleasureland CEO, Norman Wallis said:
“We are looking forward to a happy event and have been really touched by the international diplomatic community’s response to this little Embassy. It means so much.
“We wanted to create an Embassy for these most dedicated of ambassadors.
“Covid has seen charities’ donations decrease and leisure and entertainment businesses’ doors closed.
“It’s time for all of us to work together. We are incredibly proud to partner Alder Hey Children’s Charity and honoured to receive such warm good wishes from international diplomats.”
The Embassy’s crest and flag features the charity’s friendly blue elephant motif paired trunk-to-trunk flanking the new Embassy shield.
