Whether you’re visiting for a special event or looking for ways to make the most of the school holidays, Visit Southport has picked out ten great days out to add to your itinerary before summer ends.
1 – A blooming good day at Southport Flower Show (August 20–23)
The Southport Flower Show is back from August 20–23, bringing four days of colourful gardens, floral displays, entertainment, food and family fun to Victoria Park.
There’s plenty to see beyond the flowers, with show gardens, a Cookery Theatre, Garden Theatre, shopping village and family entertainment. This year’s special guests include BBC Gardeners’ World presenter Adam Frost, Arit Anderson and Strictly Come Dancing judge Anton Du Beke.
It’s an ideal option for families looking to enjoy a full day out, with plenty to see and do for all ages.

2 – Look to the skies at Southport Air Show (August 29–30)
For a day out with serious wow factor, it doesn’t get much bigger than the Southport Air Show.
Taking place between August 29-30, this year’s event will see the world-famous Red Arrows return to Southport – the only chance to see them in the North this summer – as well as a Typhoon display on Sunday.
You can also catch displays like the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight, featuring the Spitfire, Hurricane and Dakota, and Aerosuperbatics Wingwalkers across the weekend.
Gates open at 10am, with flying displays running from approximately midday until 5pm, giving families plenty of time to soak up the atmosphere, explore the Military Village and watch the action overhead.

3 – Get creative at The Atkinson with free craft workshops
For a more relaxed day out, head to The Atkinson for one of its free craft workshops on August 20 and 27.
Once you’ve finished getting creative, you can make more of your visit by exploring The Atkinson’s Egyptology Museum and art gallery, both offering a chance to discover something new without spending a penny on entry.
Located on Lord Street, it’s also perfectly placed for exploring Southport town centre, grabbing lunch or continuing your day along the seafront.

4 – Vera and her Velociraptor visit Southport Market
Calling all dinosaur lovers! Vera and her Velociraptor will be at Southport Market on August 28 for a roar-some interactive children’s show, packed with singing, dancing, and dinosaur adventures. A perfect family day out full of laughter, music and prehistoric fun, you don’t want to miss this one.
With independent food vendors serving up flavours from around the world, Southport Market is an easy way to please everyone – whether you’re after something familiar or want to try something completely new.

5 – Make a day of Kings Gardens and Marine Lake
For a classic Southport day out, head towards Kings Gardens and Marine Lake, where you can pack several activities into one trip.
Challenge the family to a round at Southport Crazy Golf, before exploring the miniature world at Southport Model Railway Village.
Enjoy rides on the 125-year-old Silcock’s Carousel, enjoy fish and chips at Silcock’s Pier Family Restaurant, and head into Silcock’s Funland, the biggest indoor amusement centre in Southport.
Then, head over to Marine Lake to enjoy some time beside the water or get out on the lake with boat hire.
6 – Bounce Mania: Summer Edition

7 – Queenscourt Rocks
Two Southport business owners who got married last year are inviting everyone to their Queenscourt Rocks Charity Event.
This fantastic fundraiser for Queenscourt Hospice will take place at The Thatch & Thistle pub on Norwood Road in Southport from midday on Saturday 29th August 2026 – August Bank Holiday Weekend.

Located right by the seafront, you can enjoy rides, entertainment and family-friendly activities, making it easy to spend several hours here before heading down to the beach or into town.
Whether your family is made up of thrill-seekers or you’re looking for something to keep the kids entertained, Adventure Coast is an easy addition to a Southport day out.

9 – Brian & George Fell: Always Something New
Father and son team Brian and George Fell have been working together for over 15 years. Creating public art that has a sense of place at its heart, there are examples of their work all over the country. They both love the physicality of making sculpture. Their partnership, which began when George left school, has supported Brian’s established reputation as an accomplished public artist who can make anything in steel and enabled George to develop his own style.
The exhibition at The Atkinson highlights key commissions from the past forty years, with a special focus on the work Brian and George have done together. Always making, the show also presents some of the creative work they do for themselves.
10 – Soak up the fun at Dunes Splash World
Dive right in at Splash World, Southport’s indoor waterpark, packed with slides, flumes, pools and water-based fun for the whole family. It’s the perfect place to cool off and enjoy some all-weather adventure.
Splash World also hosts exclusive Quiet Nights, designed to create a calmer, more comfortable environment for neurodiverse visitors and those with disabilities.
