United Legal Assistance, which has doubled its workforce in the past year, has moved into the historic former Crown Post Office building on Lord Street in Southport town centre.

The claims management firm has made a substantial investment transforming the landmark site into a vibrant, modern office facility inside while restoring and maintaining many of the original features.

United Legal Assistance is now eager to grow its workforce further still with a variety of roles available to suit people with a range of skills.

The firm was previously based on Hoghton Street in Southport town centre before moving to one of the town’s most impressive locations.

Colleagues enjoy views across Monument Square and the Lord Street boulevard, while being a couple of minutes’ walk from Southport Train Station and nearby bus shops plus lots of local restaurants, shops and cafes.

It is a busy place to work, open seven days a week between 8am and 8pm.

United Legal Assistance Operations Manager John Young said:

“The staff have fully transferred across to our brand new office now.

“They love being here! The feedback from everyone has been really good. We’ve had a very positive response from people and have plans to continue to invest to ensure the working environment remains fresh.

“That is really important to us, because we put the staff at the forefront of everything we do.

“A business is only ever as good as the people who work there.

“It has been really good to bring everyone working together in one space, it’s much better for team spirit. There is more room here, more facilities. We had outgrown where we were before.

“The former Crown Post Office is one of Southport’s most impressive buildings.

“United Legal Assistance has made a substantial investment to bring this historic building back into use by creating modern office facilities and bringing skilled jobs to the town.

“We would love to get that number up to 70 as soon as we can.

“United Legal Assistance can offer people stable, long-term, skilled jobs in a variety of roles which would suit people with a variety of skills and abilities. To those looking to get in to work we encourage them to get in touch to see if there is potential for a role now or in the future.

“We currently work with around 275 insurance brokers across the UK.

“We are proud to invest in mentoring and training our staff and provide a range of benefits to working here.

“At the moment we urgently need another Appointment Setter, someone to come in and support our sales team, which has become so busy.

“Additionally we are recruiting more than five positions for Experienced Claims Handlers, and also a Senior Complaints Handler as we look to develop the strong and diverse team we’ve already assembled within the business.

“These roles are full time and in office, with a well remunerated salary which is dependent on experience.

“Culture is something that’s really important to us at ULA and ensuring that we put the staff at the forefront of this. Additionally to the package on offer we also provide staff with breakfast on a Friday, free fresh coffee, an array of staff socials throughout the year and to those who pass their probation, access to the most comprehensive private healthcare package through Vitality.”

The staff at United Legal have been supporting charities by raising money allowing the team to dress down on a Friday. Their latest pledge for the forthcoming quarter is to support Queenscourt Hospice having raised over £1,100 in 2023.

United Legal Assistance, which was founded in 2014 by brothers Adam and Gavin Hughes, has doubled in size over the past year.

It is delighted to have moved into the Southport Crown Post Office site, which has been empty for nine years since Post Office services were transferred to the first floor of WH Smith on Chapel Street.

The historic Grade II building was built before the First World War and thrived as Southport’s main Post Office for many years.

It forms part of a larger group of buildings within this area of Lord Street including the current NatWest building, all of which date to approximately 1912. It is one of the most important sites within the Lord Street Conservation area.

United Legal Assistance boasts a friendly, honest and professional team with over 20 years experience in the insurance and claims management industry and is inviting people to join them at their smart new office, which has space for 110 employees.
