The former Mother & Child children’s wear shop in Birkdale Village in Southport is due to be converted into a wine bar.
The unit, at 7 Weld Parade, will become an extension of the neighbouring Wine Rack.
The venue would be a wine bar and wine retail / off-sales premises, with ancillary provision of cheese, charcuterie and small plates, together with external customer seating, with no external alterations to the building.
The number of employees would rise from one full-time and four part-time, to one full-time and six part-time.
Proposed opening hours would be: 8am-midnight, seven days a week.
Owners of Wine Rack have submitted a planning application to Sefton Council.
Their submission says: “The proposal is principally a change of use and an extension of an existing established business into the immediately adjoining premises. No structural alterations or changes to the building fabric are proposed.
“The application property at 7 Weld Parade forms part of an established commercial frontage within Birkdale Village. The applicant already operates an established wine bar and wine retail business from the immediately adjoining premises.
“The intention of the proposal is to extend the existing business into No. 7 so that the two adjoining premises operate as one cohesive wine bar and wine retail business. The proposal therefore represents an extension of an existing commercial use rather than the introduction of an unrelated new business or a change to the established commercial character of the frontage.
“The proposal is for the change of use of the existing premises at 7 Weld Parade to a wine bar, allowing the premises to be incorporated into the applicant’s existing adjoining wine bar and wine retail business.
“The external changes associated with the proposal are limited to a new unified fascia / signage arrangement extending across the two adjoining premises and external customer seating outside No. 7, continuing the same type and character of seating already provided outside the existing adjoining premises.
“External seating will be provided outside No. 7 as a direct extension of the seating already associated with the adjoining wine bar. The seating will contribute to the active commercial and social character of the village centre, where retail, food, drink and other commercial uses form an established part of the area’s character.”
