People living in Sefton will get their chance to cast their votes when the 2022 Local Elections take place.
Local residents will be able to vote for their chosen candidates in seven electoral wards across Southport – Ainsdale, Birkdale, Dukes, Meols, Cambridge, Norwood and Kew – and in 22 wards across Sefton as a whole with areas including Bootle, Formby, Crosby, Maghull and Aintree.

Publication of Notice of Election Monday 28 March 2022
Receipt of Nominations 4pm Tuesday 5 April 2022
Withdrawal of Candidate 4pm Tuesday 5 April 2022
Publication of Statements of Persons Nominated 4pm Wednesday 6 April 2022
Last Date for Registration Thursday 14 April 2022
Receipt of Postal Vote Applications 5pm Tuesday 19 April 2022
Receipt of Proxy Vote Applications 5pm Tuesday 26 April 2022
Appointment of Poll and Count Agents Wednesday 27 April 2022
Day of Poll 7:00 am to 10pm Thursday 5 May 2022
Postal ballot packs will be issued on Thursday 21 April 2022 and Postal Vote opening sessions will commence week beginning 25 April 2022.
Counting of votes will take place immediately after the close of poll at 10pm on Thursday 5 May 2022.
Southport wards will be counted at Dunes Leisure Centre.
All Bootle and Sefton Central wards will be counted at Aintree Racecourse.
The new Election Bill is progressing through Parliament and it is expected to receive Royal Assent by June 2022.
This will introduce Voter Identification at polling stations and make changes to postal voting and voting by British citizens living overseas.
A detailed briefing paper will be made available to Sefton’s councillors in due course.
