Rotten Row in Southport is celebrating its 100th anniversary. The herbaceous border is largely maintained by volunteers from the Friends Of Rotten Row

Volunteering has the power to change a community for the better and there are numerous ways you can help make a positive impact through volunteering.

Volunteer Centre Sefton is working with Stand Up for Southport to provide a monthly update on volunteering across the Southport and Formby area.

From helping in a healthcare setting to getting your hands dirty in Southport’s  many green spaces, get inspired to volunteer with this month’s round-up of the latest volunteer roles.

Occupational Therapy (OT) Support Volunteer, Hartley Hospital, Southport

Volunteer at Southport’s newest hospital! Hartley Hospital is a mental health facility on Curzon Road and they are looking for an Occupational Therapy (OT) Support Volunteer to help the  team in undertaking group and individual activities with people using their service who are experiencing mental health problems. This is a rewarding volunteer role, where you can gain experience in what it’s like to work in a mental health setting. Volunteers will be given full training and travel expenses will be paid.

Volunteer at Southport and Ormskirk Hospital Trust

Help make a difference to those needing medical treatment and volunteer in Southport and Ormskirk Hospital trust. They are currently looking for help in a number of roles including:

Accident and emergency department volunteer –   the role will include providing sustenance to waiting patients and visitors attending the department, running errands for reception/clinical staff and generally providing support to the department. This is a fast-paced role and would suit someone who likes an active, busy, but rewarding volunteering role.

Dining Companion – do you believe that food is an important part of care during illness? If so, volunteer as a dining companion. They are an invaluable part of a ward and help to physically feed patients and also motivate and encourage them to eat and drink by providing social interaction through talking to patients. 

Maternity Volunteer – based at the maternity ward at Ormskirk Hospital, the purpose of this rewarding role is to help patients on the Maternity ward by ensuring they have refreshments, helping with meals and showing visitors to patients’ beds.

Volunteers will get free parking, a uniform and reasonable travel expenses paid.

Volunteer for Friends of Rotten Row

Spring is just around the corner and if you love being outdoors and active then volunteer for the Friends of Rotten Row. A hundred year old half mile herbaceous border, Rotten Row needs plenty of helping hands to keep it looking beautiful. You do not need any gardening experience to volunteer and they work on the border Monday-Thursday from 10:00-3:00pm. You don’t have to commit to the whole time just pop along when you can. Luncheon Club Delivery Driver for Ainsdale Lunch and Leisure

Ainsdale Lunch and Leisure is a popular lunch club that is looking for volunteer drivers to help get club members to and from the club. You will need to have a clean driving licence, have your own vehicle and be happy to chat with club members while driving.
