To celebrate National Apprenticeship Week and this year’s theme of ‘Build the Future’ Southport College has proudly hosted its biggest ever Apprenticeship Information Fair.
The event, held today (Thursday 10th February), brought over 700 school leavers from Sefton and West Lancashire together with around 50 different employers and organisations, to allow them to find out about the wide range of apprenticeships on offer in the area.
The employers in attendance all work closely with the college and ranged from successful local companies such as Fletchers Solicitors, Tower Heating and Unite Martial Arts, to large organisations including the NHS, McDonalds and the Royal Navy.
College Principal, Michelle Brabner, said: “We are really grateful to all the employers and organisations who attended today. We appreciate them taking time out to support the event and I know the students have definitely found talking to them about the individual apprenticeship opportunities they offer invaluable.”
The students also enjoyed a talk about how apprenticeships work, and heard from Southport MP Damien Moore about how important local businesses are in a successful economy.
Damien Moore, who has been a supporter of apprenticeships at the college for many years, said: “I am delighted to be able to attend today’s Apprenticeship Fair at the wonderful Southport College.
“It has been great to talk to our bright young people and hear about their ambitions, as well as to speak with many of the businesses and organisations present.
“Highly skilled employees are key in building our future, and it is truly wonderful that so many local businesses see apprenticeships as a great way to develop their talent.
“Southport, and indeed Southport College in particular, is full of such great potential, and it is fantastic to see so many of our town’s young people choosing this pathway to their dream career.
“My sincerest thanks to Michelle, the businesses and organisations present, and everybody else working hard to help bring our talented young people succeed to their fullest potential.”
Southport College is the largest provider of apprenticeships in the area.
It offers a really high quality experience and works with a wide range of employers, both national and local, to tailor make the right training for the needs of their business or organisation.
