The Swan chippy in Southport has been honoured as one of the nine best chippies in the UK!
The accolade was made by the National Geographic website, which published its ‘Nine of the best UK fish and chip shops’ feature.
Journalist Neil Davey said: “From lemon sole in Fife to mackerel goujons in Porthmadog, check out our seaside selection this summer.”
The National Geographic UK Facebook page has over 64 millions followers, with over 23 million Followers on Twitter.
In their entry, they said: “Southport’s oldest fish and chip restaurant has been run by the Defty family for 45 years. Fish and potatoes are locally sourced where possible and, while the menu lacks modern curveballs, it does the classics well enough to have inspired passions across the town. And at very moderate prices too.”
The Swan Restaurant & Take Away has been featured on television several times and has been spoken about as far as America and Australia.
The business only uses the best quality fish and potatoes and whenever possible, local and sustainable produce is used.
Others highlighted by National Geographic included The Magpie Cafe in Whitby, Anstruther Fish Bar in Fife, Fish City in Belfast and Enoch’s Fish and Chips in Llandudno Junction.
