Christmas is coming to Southport in style this Sunday (3rd November 2024) with THREE floors of festive entertainment at The Grand on Lord Street.

The Bold, on the other side of the street in the Northern Quarter, will be welcoming visitors for an unforgettable day and evening of family entertainment.

Visitors to both venues will then be able to enjoy a spectacular firework display lighting up the skies above Lord Street.

There is lots to enjoy for people of all ages in both venues with lots happening.

It will be even bigger and better this year, after the opening of the brand new Harry’s Bar and Sky Bar rooftop bars on top of The Grand earlier this year.

The popular Grand Christmas Lights Switch On – one of the most stylish seasonal events in the North West – will launch a season of festive events in style with thousands of excited guests already booked into The Grand and The Bold this November and December.

Inside The Grand, the elves have been busy once again this year, installing over 15,000 twinkling lights, 6,000 baubles, a giant Christmas tree and garlands galore.

The Grand Christmas Lights Switch On will be hosted by local radio personality Claire Simmo.

The lights will be switched on at around 5.45pm, with the fireworks launched at around 6pm.

The Princess Grace Suite at The Grand will host a Children’s Christmas Party; Harry’s Bar hosts Bottomless Brunch Christmas Lunch; Chloe’s Piano Bar hosts Festive Afternoon Tea; and the Brasserie offers a special Christmas Lights Switch on Menu.

The Bold will host a ‘Light Up The Sky – Southport Get Together’ event. People can gather for an unforgettable evening in the outdoor terrace from 5pm, enjoying Yorkshire pudding wraps, live music, mulled wine and mince pies, Baileys hot chocolate and then a fireworks display. Free entry.

Mikhail Hotel And Leisure Group Chairman Andrew Mikhail said:

“We always love to go big at Christmas, and this year will be the best it’s ever been at The Grand and The Bold!

“We will have all three floors at The Grand packed with festive events that visitors will love.

“Families won’t want to miss our Grand Christmas Lights Switch On.

“They can also book in for a Children’s Party; Festive Afternoon Tea; Bottomless Brunch Christmas Lunch; and more.

“Last year our switch on was extremely busy, so I would invite people to come early if they want to get a seat. It will be full.

“For the first time this year, we will also be lighting up the sky with a fireworks display, which will be a magnificent sight above Lord Street!

“We really wanted to light the touchpaper for our Christmas celebrations at our venues in Southport with a bang.”

Nearly 3,000 people have already booked in for festive meals, Christmas nights out, and seasonal party nights and events at The Grand and The Bold.

Andrew Mikhail said: “We are overwhelmed that we are already planning to welcome over 2,800 guests coming to our many sold out Christmas Party Nights in November and December.

“People have been booking in since the summer, and we are looking forward to a really busy festive season.

“The Grand and The Bold are the places to be in Southport at Christmas.

“While some events have sold out already, we do also have other events and lots of options available for people, whether you’re keen to enjoy a traditional Christmas meal, a party night, festive afternoon tea or more inside our venues.

“We continue to invest in Southport, in venues including The Grand, The Bold, Punch Tarmey’s, Maverick’s, and Lord Street Hotel.

“Working with Sefton Council and their leaders this is what can be achieved when you work together.

“It’s been fantastic working with people such as Marion Atkinson, Stuart Barnes and Mark Catherall. They have really supported us with reinvigorating the Northern Quarter in Southport and bringing Southport’s heritage back to life.

“We hope people enjoy the official launch of our Christmas season at The Grand and The Bold.

“We are all really looking forward to it and to playing our part in making Southport great again!”
