Review: Vue Cinema, Ocean Plaza Leisure, Southport
Really enjoyed a family afternoon out at Vue Cinema at Ocean Plaza Southport – watching the 40th anniversary screening of The Goonies!
One of the greatest family movies of all time, it was lovely for us to watch this with our daughters. ‘The Goonies never die’.
There are loads of family films on at Vue this summer including The Fantastic Four: First Steps; Superman; Jurassic World Rebirth; The Bad Guys 2; Smurfs; How To Train Your Dragon; Peppa Meets The Baby; Elio; Jungle Trouble.
It’s great to have free parking right outside, and lots of great places to eat and drink nearby. We bought food from one of the eateries to sit and eat while looking out over Southport Beach.
Vue Cinema unveiled its impressive new look to families in February after a multi-million makeover.
Work took place over several months to transform the 8-screen venue, at Ocean Plaza Leisure retail park and create an elevated experience for movie-goers.
It is the biggest investment to happen at the site since it opened its doors in 2001, before being taken over and operated by Vue since 2003.
The changes include the first electronic ticket barriers that Vue Cinema has installed in the UK. We booked our tickets online – it’s cheaper – and scanned the tickets on the gate to get in.
There are brand new cinema projectors and sound systems, plus Lux recliner seats.
The seats have footrests and have the option to recline four ways, while also including tables to rest your drinks and snacks on.
It’s a way to watch movies in real comfort, with lots more for families to enjoy nearby including Tenpin bowling and laser, Playtown, Everlast gym, and the exciting Footy Nation joining them later this year.
