There’s lots for families to do at The Atkinson in Southport during February Half Term from Dinosaurs Live, to Ukrainian Day, Sing The Musicals, the Nu-Shabtis Sculpture Trail and more! 

Here are some of the things you can look forward to this week: 

Family
Free  Nu-Shabtis Sculpture Trail Monday 17 February 2025 – Saturday 22 February 2025.
Pick up a trial sheet at The Atkinson.Shabtis are small figurines that Ancient Egyptians placed in tombs, believing they would join them in the afterlife to help with tasks and be their loyal companions.Contemporary artist Zahed Taj-Eddin has created Nu-Shabtis that have come to life in The Atkinson and are enjoying daily tasks such as shopping, going to the gym and using mobile phones!Pick up a free trail sheet to find the Nu-Shabtis on display across The Atkinson.
Free  Mummification WorkshopTuesday 18 February 2025, 10:30am & 11:45am. 
All spaces now booked. Explore the fascinating process of mummification as practiced by the Ancient Egyptians in this interactive session.
Uncover the secrets behind their meticulous techniques, designed to preserve the body and ensure eternal life in the afterlife. Learn about the rituals, tools, and materials they used—from removing organs to wrapping the body in linen—and the profound spiritual beliefs that drove this intricate process. Engage with history and understand how this ancient practice symbolised their quest for immortality.

No Booking Required.Egyptologist Claire Ollett will be offering insight into the artefacts on display in our Discover Ancient Egypt museum.This is a unique opportunity to deepen your understanding of Ancient Egyptian culture, from its awe-inspiring rituals to its everyday life, as seen through the lens of these extraordinary objects. Don’t miss this chance to connect with history in an engaging and enlightening session!
Free  Make It! Craft WorkshopThursday 20 February 2025, 11am – 3pm.
Free. No booking required. Join us in The Atkinson’s Art Box for an arts and crafts workshop suitable for all the family. There’s something for all ages, with all materials supplied and all for free! This week’s theme – bears! Drop-in any time between 11am – 3pm and get creative.Children under 12 must be supervised by an adult.First come first served. You may be expected to wait until a space at a craft table becomes available.

Sing The MusicalsTuesday 18 February 2025, 7:30pm.
£25 Plus booking fee. Get ready to sing and dance your heart out! The first national tour of the greatest musicals of all time is coming to town, and it’s going to be epic! 

A sensational live band and incredible character singers will bring your favorite show tunes to life, while a giant screen with singalong lyrics will have you belting out every word.

On Saturday 22 February, immerse yourself in the rich tapestry of Ukrainian culture with a captivating day of events at The Atkinson. There will be a coffee morning, a choir performance, craft workshops and traditional dress alongside a community exhibition where you can find out more about Ukrainian culture. The Foyer, Ground Floor
