Salt and Tar sponsored feature by Stand Up For Southport
Bootle’s canal-side venue, Salt and Tar, will once again come alive with creativity, enterprise, and community spirit this May as the Teenage Market returns as part of its Fringe Festival.
Running from Friday 23rd to Monday 26th May, the Fringe Festival promises an exciting programme of headline comedy, live music, family-friendly activities, beer tasting experiences, wellness workshops, and more. Rounding off the weekend in style, the final day, Bank Holiday Monday, will see the indoor entertainment tent transformed into a Teenage Market from 12pm to 4pm.
This free event offers an exciting opportunity for young people aged 10-25 to run their own market stalls, sell creative goods, or test out new business ideas in a supportive, real-world setting. From handmade crafts and homeware to jewellery, art, clothing and more, visitors can expect a unique shopping experience that celebrates young talent.
There will also be a stage open to young performers. Whether you are in a band, a solo singer, dancer, or comedian, this is your chance to showcase your skills in front of a lively local audience.
Councillor Paulette Lappin, Sefton Council’s Cabinet Member for Regeneration, Economy and Skills, said:
“The Teenage Market is a brilliant event to empower and celebrate our young people, whether they are traders, creators, or performers. Events like this help develop vital skills, spark new ideas, and build confidence in a real-world setting.

“Salt and Tar has quickly become a hub for creativity, culture and community and it’s also a key part of our wider vision for Bootle’s regeneration. By investing in spaces that support young people and bring people together, we’re not just creating great events, we’re laying the foundations for a more vibrant, inclusive and resilient town centre.
“This event is another fantastic example of how we are putting young people at the heart of Bootle’s future. I would encourage everyone to come down and support the talent of tomorrow, there’ll be something for everyone to enjoy.”
The Teenage Market is a national initiative that empowers young people to be entrepreneurial, explore creative business ideas and develop confidence in real-world settings. With support from Sefton Council and Salt and Tar, the event continues to provide a valuable platform for young talent across the borough and beyond.
