International taekwondo competitor Erin Bannon has been celebrated for her achievements with another title to add to her collection – the Sefton Young Sportsperson Of The Year sponsored by Merseyrail.
Erin was presented with her accolade by Merseyrail Head of Community & Engagement Sally Ralston BEM at the 2026 Grand Pride Of Sefton Awards.
Erin was among local heroes from all over the borough celebrated across 13 categories.
Her nomination said: “Erin Bannon has been training in taekwondo since she was 3 years old.
“She is now 15 and has been a coach from the age of 11.
“Erin has been a black belt since she was 9, she coaches four nights a week whilst studying for her GCSES and she trains every night.
“This year she has been to her second international competition.
“This year she earned 3rd place in the Croatian Open. There were 69 competitors and Erin earned 3rd in a pair that she has been with since June this year.
“She then went on to win the National Championships this year, which is a competition that all the clubs attend from all round the country.
“She helps all the students in the club, either mentally, physically or simply giving support and encouragement at competitions.”
The 2026 Grand Pride Of Sefton Awards celebrated selfless, talented and courageous people across 13 categories at The Grand in Southport on 24th April 2026.
The Main Award was won by Queenscourt Hospice founder Dr Karen Groves MBE.
The evening was hosted by former Sky Sports News presenter Fraser Dainton with VIP guests including HM Lord-Lieutenant of Merseyside Peter Oliver OBE and Mayor of Sefton Cllr Burns.
Funds were raised on the night for the ICU Steps charity, which supports patients in intensive care and their families.
The Grand Pride Of Sefton Awards are organised by Mikhail Hotel and Leisure Group and Stand Up For Southport in association with media partners In Demand Radio with support from Southport BID.
There are 13 categories including Child of Courage, School Of The Year, Community Impact, Charity Champion and more, plus the Main Award.
Next year’s event takes place on Friday the 30th April 2027.
