Did you know that the iconic Birkdale Cheese Co in Southport is nearly half a century old…?

Just like a ripe Stilton, this famous shop just gets better with age.

Thanks to some clever detective work and some fantastic photos sent in by a customer, owners John Clarke and Mark Moss – who took over the ownership of Birkdale Cheese Co in May 2021.- have just discovered that the venture is 44 years old.

Birkdale Cheese Co stocks over 150 premium quality cheeses from tangy blues to melt in the mouth cheddars, as well as a great deli range including charcuterie, pâté, rillettes, fine wines and ports.

John and Mark said: “After some clever detective work, we have discovered our beautiful cheese shop is 44 years old.

“Ryan Fashoni sent us some amazing photos and tells us ‘my grandad started a cheese stall in Southport Market and started importing foreign cheese and foods.
