Update: This event will now take place on Friday, 13th May, raising funds for Southport Flower Show and Queenscourt Hospice.
People can enjoy a great night out as Disco Bingo returns to Southport this May!
This special event will take place at Victoria Park in Southport on Friday, 13th May, raising funds for the Southport Flower Show charity and Queenscourt Hospice.
The evening is full of lively music and good-natured banter provided by comedian and presenter Brendan Riley, with prizes available on the night.
The fun takes place in the luxury heated marquee at Victoria Park, with tickets just £10 each, available from the website: victoriaparkevents.co.uk or phone: 01704547147.
Brendan Riley said: “We are delighted to be working with Southport Flower Show again, staging a special Disco Bingo night at the park.
“Many people don’t realise that Southport Flower Show is a charity. The charity maintains Victoria Park at no cost to the taxpayer, for the benefit of people from across the UK. It also stages the annual Southport Flower Show, which is the largest independent flower show in the country.
“The Covid pandemic has battered Southport Flower Show over the past couple of years, with the event not having been able to take place since 2019, which has left a big impact on its funding.
“Southport Flower Show is a great local charity, and it needs our support!
“We organised a Disco Bingo show for them last year and it went down really well. We are really looking forward to welcoming people to enjoy this one.”
For anyone who has not tried Disco Bingo before – you are in for a memorable time.
Brendan said: “Disco Bingo is good, clean, honest fun!
“Get your dabbers ready and come down for a great night out!
“Disco Bingo is a dance along, sing along, interactive bingo night, while winning some great prizes!
“It is exactly what it says on the tin; a full night of traditional style Disco and Bingo but with a modern twist!
“Disco Bingo is guaranteed to get the whole room up and dancing, classic disco hits are triggered when certain bingo numbers are called.
“It is suitable for people of all ages, from 18 to 80.”
The show starts at 8pm, doors 7pm.
Funds through the Disco Bingo night will be raised for Southport Flower Show, a charity that operates the beautiful 34-acre Victoria Park for the benefit of the public.
The Flower Show Board of Trustees / Directors are volunteers and do not receive any payment.
Sefton Council leases Victoria Park to Southport Flower Show for a ‘peppercorn rent’ (a bouquet of flowers) and does not assist or provide any public funds to maintain the attraction.
The organisation organises the biggest independent flower show in the country every August and also hosts or stages a number of other events during the year, including Southport Comedy Festival, Southport Food and Drink Festival, Southport Classic and Speed, the British Musical Fireworks Championship and others. They attract tens of thousands of visitors into Southport every year, providing a huge boost to local businesses including hotels, shops, bars and restaurants.
Southport Flower Show General Manager Alan Adams said: “We are so grateful to Bren and Val from Southport Comedy Festival for putting this event on for us.
“All proceeds will go into the pot to maintain our wonderful park.
“As a lot of you already know – we are a charity which solely relies on profits from the Show and other park bookings to survive.
“I would urge people locally to please support us and buy a ticket.”
Queenscourt Hospice is a local charity that provides support for the people of West Lancs, Southport and Formby. The charity cares for patients with serious illnesses, enabling them to achieve the best possible quality of life at each new stage. It helps to do this both in the Hospice and at Home through its In-Patient unit, Queenscourt Connect and Queenscourt at Home services.
Queenscourt receives less than a fifth of its costs from the NHS and the rest of the money comes from charitable donations that help keep the hospice running! It has a small team of staff who help it to achieve this by setting up and running events, visiting the community to hold fundraisers and working with local organisations to secure grants and other forms of income. There are a lot of ways you can donate money to help us continue offering our services. Why not visit our Donation page, or click on the Fundraising tab at the top of the website to learn all about our Events, Charity Shops, Lottery and more.
