Southport’s ‘Daddy Cool’ is hanging up his mic later this year after 40 years of entertaining thousands of party goers in the North West.
Kevin Peet, from Southport, says he has enjoyed “a rollercoaster ride” after four decades as a DJ, working in some of the region’s most iconic venues, and alongside some top performers.
Kevin, 53, is a passionate local fisherman, who owns the Peets Plaice fish and seafood shop on Cambridge Road in Churchtown. He is also a radio presenter on Mighty FM.
He said: “I have decided after 40 years of being a DJ to call it a day at the end of the year. I have a couple of bookings still to do as I have never, and never will, let anybody down.”
Kevin, who is married to wife, Nicola, has many great memories to look back over, since starting out as a DJ when he was a teenager.
He said: “It has been a rollercoaster ride for me as I have done so much over the years, starting out at the age of 15.
“My Dad gave me £1,000 which paid for my first ever disco and I paid him back within months, but he had the faith in me.

“In the early years I worked all the clubs – Toad Hall, Royals, Mad Hatters just to name a few, until becoming a Redcoat for Butlins in 1986.
“I enjoyed spells working for my friend David Baxter at Brooklyn Caravan Park in the 1980s, bringing some great acts and new ideas for the site.
“Just think, a small club of 200 people watching the likes of Ken Dodd, Jimmy James, The Dooleys, The Searchers, and many more.
“I also had spells working on the Army camps in Germany and for National Holidays in the south of France.
“I think my time in the 90s was great, setting up my promotional company, putting shows on and putting a show together called Daddy Cool’s Boogie Wonderland.
“I’ve worked with some great stars over the years but I would like to thank all my DJ friends out there and friends involved with sound and lighting.
“Finally in life you have family and friends and I love you all, and thank you so much for all your support.
“Special mention to my best friend Simon Smithies, we have done so much together over the years and I just needed to mention him.”
