Elsie’s Story says that the three girls who died in Southport last summer and the town of Southport “will not be remembered for the events of that day, but for everything we are building together”.
As we approach one year since the events of last year, the families of Elsie Dot Stancombe, 7, Bebe King, 6, and Alice Dasilva Aguiar, 9, have made an extraordinary impact on the community.
There has been huge support both locally and nationally for Elsie’s Story, which was set up last year to make grants in Elsie’s name, supporting children and young people.
Bebe’s Hive and Alice’s Wonderdance have also been established to create a positive legacy.
The Stancombe, King and Aguiar families have also worked hard together to secure £10 million funding from the Government to create a brand new Town Hall gardens in Southport.
The area in front of The Atkinson and Southport Town Hall will be transformed in its most significant regeneration ever, creating a family-friendly, child-orientated, and safe open-air performance and gathering space.
Elsie’s Story said: “As we approach next week, our Elsie’s Story team will be taking some much-needed time to spend with family and friends.
“If you contact us during this time, please bear in mind that it might take us a little longer than usual to respond. We always love hearing from you, and we’ll get back to you as soon as we can.
“On a personal note, I truly have no words to express what your support, love, kindness and generosity has meant to us over the past 12 months.
“We set out with an ambition: to continue Elsie’s legacy, to make a positive difference in her name, to bring hope to other children, and to show that we will not live in fear, but with fun and love. We care for one another, look out for each other, and show up when it matters most.
“No-one is alone in this.
“Our girls, our town, will not be remembered for the events of that day, but for everything we are building together.
“From the incredible work of @bebeshiveuk and @aliceswonderdance, to every single person who has stood by us, our girls will be remembered for everything they were, and still are.
“None of this could have ever happened without you, our community, the nation.
“And as we continue writing the pages of Elsie’s Story your support means more than words can ever say.
“From the bottom of my broken heart, thank you.”
Elsie’s Story was set up last year “to turn heartbreak into hope, bringing joy to other children”.
The charity was founded by her family to make grants in Elsie’s name, supporting young people and helping children in the community.
