A three-man team from Southport Waterloo Athletics Club are celebrating becoming crowned British Champions!
On Sunday (19th November 2023) Southport Waterloo AC entered a team in the British Master Road Relays at Mallory Park in Leicestershire.
The Vet 55 age group team won their race and became British Champions.
It was a fantastic achievement for the three man team of Francois Rafferty, David Hamilton and Rob McGrath to win the prestigious event.
With the wind and rain intensifying, Francios ran the first leg, and against high quality opposition came home first to give the team an 18 second lead over the Cumbernauld team from Scotland.
David Hamilton took the 2nd leg and increased the gap to 30 seconds.
Finally Rob McGrath ran the last leg and skillfully maintained the gap at 30 seconds over the next best team, and in doing so ensured victory for Southport Waterloo AC.
