Sainsbury's supermarket in Southport has been raising money for Shoreline Foodbank

Sainsbury’s in Southport has been helping to raise money for Shoreline Foodbank through a weight loss programme among staff members.

The supermarket’s customers have also been helping the appeal by donating surplus food via collection points at the store, which is based on Great George’s Place, adjacent to Lord Street, in Southport town centre.

Sainsbury’s colleagues (pictured) raised £146 from hosting a weekly weight loss weigh-in led by Denise Parkinson (pictured centre).

Denise would like to give a big thank you to Tracey, Andrea, Sandra, Ann, Sue, Sharron and Anna for their support in helping her to raise this money for their local Shoreline Church Foodbank.

Sainsbury’s Southport Lord street customers have donated surplus food that is still healthy, nutritious and within its use-by dates to the foodbank.

The food donation scheme is aimed at charities that could really benefit from receiving surplus food products from the generosity of the store’s customers.

Southport Store Manager Fiona Wright said: “We are really happy that local charities, within our community, can benefit from our food donations scheme.

“There are hundreds of hungry mouths to feed in our local community and by customers donating food to our local charity we can guarantee that food is being put to good use.”

John Buchanan from Shoreline Church Foodbank said: “We’re delighted to be receiving this kind donation from customers at Sainsbury’s Lord Street Southport who have helped to raise awareness of our cause.

“These items really will benefit local people suffering from food poverty.”
