For decades, hardy volunteers at Southport Rugby Football Club have stood in wind, rain, hail and sunshine updating the thousands of tries, conversions and penalty kicks recorded by their players.
Now they will be able to enjoy watching the score unfold thanks to a brand new digital scoreboard, which has been provided through sponsorship with a local legal firm.
Fletchers Solicitors, based on Hoghton Street, was delighted to provide the much-needed new facility for the club on Waterloo Road.
A Southport Rugby Football Club spokesperson said: “Southport RFC is delighted to announce that our new scoreboard has been installed.
“The electric board features a remotely-controlled LED display which shows both the match score and the elapsed time.
“Thank you to Fletchers Solicitors in Southport for the donation and continued support at Southport Rugby Football Club.
“Consequently, this puts our once state of art manual board, that has been in place for numerous years into retirement, alongside the volunteers who stood in all weathers inputting the progressing score.
“This can now be done from the comfort of the clubhouse with a pint in hand!”
The new equipment was provided and installed by FSL Scoreboards, which provides digital scoreboards for rugby, football, cricket, bowls and other sports clubs.
