A Southport pub has created a secret new Oasis area as they look forward to reopening.
The MonumenT, on the corner of Hoghton Street and London Street, is among dozens of pubs, bars, restaurants, cafes and hotels in Southport which have just been told by Boris Johnson that they will soon be able to welcome back customers.
The Prime Minister Johnson today dramatically unwound the coronavirus lockdown, declaring that pubs, haircuts and weddings can return and giving family and friends the green light to meet up indoors for the first time in months.
The PM told the Commons that England is coming out of ‘hibernation’ with bars, restaurants, cinemas and hairdressers able to get back up and running from July 4 – dubbed ‘Super Saturday’.
He announced that the social distancing rule is being halved to ‘one metre plus’ to free up thousands of business, with precautions such as face masks deployed to make sure the risks of transmission stay ‘broadly’ the same.
New social distancing measures will be in place when businesses reopen, which means that lots of venues have spent lockdown making changes in order to accommodate people.
The MonumenT landlord Martin Rowe has created a new ‘Oasis’ beer garden area at the back of his pub, converting the former yard to add tables, plants and artificial grass. He also also introduced a new ‘Bistro’ seating area at the front.
He said: “Things are going fantastic. We are making really big changes here, with our new beer garden, our new bistro area, new opening times – literally huge changes.

“We are proud to present our little ‘Bistro area’ that we have made so that when we open customers will be able to enjoy a coffee, tea or alcoholic beverage whilst watching the world go by. The Bistro Area will be open from 10am until 9pm every day.
“After I had recovered from the news about lockdown I set about making the pub something people couldn’t wait to come back to, with something quality and new – so I created ‘The Oasis’ @ The MonumenT pub also a new little bistro area to the front, plus a new smoking shelter and smoking area.
“I am looking forward to greeting all our regulars back, many of whom I’ve kept in touch with via either social media or telephone.”
